This instrument is used for testing pipes and structures for the presence of internal corrosion that may not be visible from the outside, a situation which is typical in environments like refineries or offshore oil drilling rigs. Phase One Design developed the enclosure design to optimize battery and component placement to optimize balance and ease of use. The display is deeply recessed to prevent damage if the unit is place on a surface face-down.
