Crane Razor Grinder Pump

The Crane RAZOR grinder pump is a 2HP solution, used in light commercial and residential solid waste disposal systems. Grinder pumps are often used when local building codes require them or when a home or office building is constructed downhill from main sewer lines. These pumps are typically lowered into a containment enclosure on the property.

While many products in this category look dated and unrefined, Crane asked Phase One Design to develop an aesthetic appearance which communicated the pump’s advanced technology and performance quality. This had to be achieved while conforming to the constraints of sand cast iron manufacturing methods as well as very tight engineering parameters. The design was also meant to be the first product in a line that would begin to define a unique and distinctive brand language. Crane has credited the design for being a major contributor to the Razor’s enormous sales success and has since commissioned Phase One Design to work on three additional grinder pumps for differing applications.
